Culinary specialities in Paris

Welcome to the city of gastronomy ! Here are some specialities that you cannot miss when coming to Paris 😋 Prepare your taste buds, you won’t be disappointed ! 🤤 

1. LE CROQUE MONSIEUR

It appeared in a coffee in the 16th arrondissement, when a cook ran out of bread sticks to make a sandwich. This Parisian bistro dish is composed of two slices of bread, with a slice of the famous Paris ham in the middle, gratinated with « béchamel » and Emmental cheese. So tasty and easy to make at home ! 😋

3. LE FLAN PARISIEN

This little Parisian sweet is made with shortcrust pastry, eggs, milk, sugar and cornstarch.
It can also be made with chocolate, caramel, candied fruits or coconut. 🍮

2. LA BAGUETTE

The crispy and golden Parisian baguette is an important symbol of the Parisian and French gastronomy.

4. LE PARIS-BREST

This rounded cake is made with puffs pastry filled with praline mousseline cream and sprinkled with flaked almonds.
Created by the Maisons‑Laffitte pastry house, this bicycle wheel‑shaped cake evokes neither the city of Paris nor the city of Brest but the Paris‑Brest‑Paris bicycle race. 🚴‍♂️

5. LE SAINT HONORÉ

This emblematic pastry of Paris is made with a base of puff pastry, whipped cream, chiboust cream and small sugar glazed puffs.🤤
It is named after the rue Saint‑Honoré, where the Chiboust house was located, where it was created.

6.L'ENTRECÔTE BERCY

The entrecôte Bercy, a typical Parisian dish, especially from the Bercy district. It is a beef entrecote grilled with parsley and watercress. It is served with a white wine, lemon juice and shallots sauce. 🥩

7. LA RATATOUILLe

You probably know the little rat that bears its name: an emblazoned dish of French families and especially Parisian ones, this mixture of vegetables is composed of eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and onions. They are cut into thin slices and placed on a platter, where they are seasoned with oil, garlic and lots of oregano. 🍅

8. LE CROISSANT

The must‑have : the french croissant 🥐 This delicious sweet is made of a crispy pastry, made of butter and puff pastry. It is the most common item in French breakfasts, and is also often seen in hotels around the world.

9. THE CHEESE

France offers more than 300 varieties of cheese, from creamy Brie de Meaux to pungent Munster. That's over 300 ways to fall in love with French cheeses ! You have to taste one 🧀

10. LES ESCARGOTS

To finish on an offbeat note, the snails (usually a dozen) are presented in their shells and stuffed with a tantalizing combination of garlic, herbs and butter. 
Don't let their unappealing appearance fool you, the taste may surprise you 🐌
