BEST ERASMUS SPOT IN PARIS 2 : Palais Galliera

📍10 Av. Pierre 1er de Serbie, 75116 Paris

The Palais Galliera is the work of the Duchess of Galliera, Marie Brignole-Sale. A philanthropist of her time, she wished to bequeath her rich art collection to the French state in 1878. She therefore undertook the construction of a palace in the 8th arrondissement, but made a mistake when drawing up the deed of bequest, making the recipient of her bequest... the City of Paris. So, when the Duchess realized this, she refused to allow her collection to enter the museum, donating it to the Palazzo Rosso in Genoa, but completed the palace anyway. Thus, this site belonging to the city of Paris, emptied of all life, became in turn a Museum of Industrial Art, a venue for the Salon des peintres témoins de leur temps, an auction house and finally, in 1977, the Musée de la Mode et du Costume de la Ville de Paris. Don't hesitate to take a look !
